Tras la dictadura de 1976 conocida como "Proceso de Reorganización Nacional", el domingo 30 de octubre de 1983 se celebraron nuevamente elecciones presidenciales, en las que triunfó el candidato radical Raúl Alfonsín, con Víctor Hipólito Martínez como vice, con el 51,7% de los votos.
